Planning a Courthouse Wedding in Champaign-Urbana?

There is something incredibly special about courthouse weddings.

They are simple. Intimate. Meaningful.

Without a long timeline or a large venue, the focus stays exactly where it belongs—on the couple and the people who matter most.

As a photographer, documenting a Champaign County courthouse wedding always reminds me why I love what I do. This beautiful, intimate wedding took place at the courthouse in Urbana, Illinois, surrounded by close family and friends.

When I arrived, everyone was gathered together, sharing conversations and smiles while waiting for the ceremony to begin. There was excitement in the air, mixed with a few happy nerves.

One of the things I love most about courthouse weddings is how personal they feel. Every guest is there for a reason. Every hug, every smile, and every reaction feels important.

Before the ceremony, we spent some time creating portraits throughout the courthouse. The stairways, warm light, and classic architecture provided beautiful backdrops while allowing the focus to remain on the couple.

Soon, it was time for the ceremony.

As family and friends took their seats, the room became quiet. The couple exchanged vows and rings, surrounded by the people who love them most. There were smiles, laughter, and a few emotional moments that made the day feel even more meaningful.

Although courthouse ceremonies are often brief, they are filled with the same excitement and emotion as any larger wedding celebration.

After the ceremony, we continued exploring the courthouse for portraits. Some of my favorite images from the day came from the quiet moments in between—the newlywed excitement, the proud smiles from family members, and the simple joy of finally being married.

Days like this are a reminder that beautiful weddings come in all sizes.

You don’t need a grand ballroom or hundreds of guests for a wedding day to feel unforgettable. Sometimes all you need is the person you love, a few of your favorite people, and a moment to celebrate together.

Planning a Champaign County Courthouse Wedding?

Over the years, as a Champaign-Urbana wedding photographer, I’ve had the honor of documenting many courthouse weddings and intimate celebrations, and no two have ever been exactly alike.

My approach is natural and storytelling-focused, with a mix of candid moments and gently guided portraits. I love documenting the real emotions of your day while creating timeless images you’ll treasure for years to come.

What to Expect on Your Wedding Day

For a Champaign County courthouse wedding, the ceremony itself usually lasts about 10–15 minutes.

Since ceremonies are typically scheduled between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM, there is often some waiting time beforehand. I usually begin documenting the experience at check-in, capturing those excited, happy nerves. During the waiting time, we’ll create portraits throughout the courthouse, document the courthouse ceremony itself, and finish with both indoor and outdoor portraits afterward.

One of the things couples often love about courthouse weddings is how relaxed the experience feels. Without the pressure of a large wedding timeline, there is more room to slow down, be present, and simply enjoy the moment together.

Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony for two or celebrating with family and friends, I’d love to help tell your story.
