To help you find the perfect backdrop, I’ve gathered some of my favorite photo locations in Champaign-Urbana and the surrounding area. Each one offers something a little different, and each has the potential to turn ordinary moments into lasting memories.

1. Lake of the Woods (Mahomet, IL) :One of the Best Photo Locations in Champaign-Urbana

Lake of the Woods is one of my most requested photo locations and one of the most versatile spots in the Champaign-Urbana area. With open fields, wooded trails, a scenic lake, and a charming covered bridge, it offers a variety of beautiful backdrops all within one location.

I love photographing sessions here throughout the year, but it’s especially stunning in the fall when the trees turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and gold. The park also photographs beautifully during golden hour, making it a favorite for both families and couples.

2. Japan House and Gardens (Champaign, IL): A Peaceful Photo Location in Champaign-Urbana

Located on the University of Illinois campus, Japan House and Gardens is one of the most unique photo locations in Champaign-Urbana. 3. Allerton Park and Retreat Center (Monticello, IL): A Stunning Photo Location Near Champaign-Urbana

Allerton Park is one of the most popular photo locations near Champaign-Urbana, and it’s easy to see why.

The park offers an incredible variety of scenery, from formal gardens and tree-lined pathways to unique sculptures and beautiful open spaces. Every corner feels a little different, making it easy to create a gallery with lots of variety.

One of the highlights of Allerton is the historic mansion and surrounding gardens, which add a timeless, elegant feel to photos.

One of my favorite times to photograph at Allerton is in May, when the peony gardens are in bloom. The large, colorful flowers create a gorgeous setting for portraits and engagement sessions. From spring flowers to summer greenery and fall colors, Allerton offers beautiful scenery throughout the year and is one of the most versatile locations in the area.

4. Busey Woods (Urbana, IL)

One of the things I love most about Busey Woods is its quiet, natural feel. It’s not uncommon to spot deer wandering through the woods, especially during the early morning or evening hours. 5. University of Illinois Campus (Champaign-Urbana, IL)

One of the things I love most about photographing at UIUC is the variety. You can capture classic graduation photos in front of campus landmarks, then walk a few minutes and find quieter spots with beautiful light and seasonal colors.
